Venture Capital - Best time during start-up to seek VC and timetable for getting Money?

ScottyMac asked:

I’ve been working on a web start-up for about a year now. I have done all the basics - formed the company, put together my team, started making contacts. I am currently working with the programming company and design team on the final specs for the site but my funding is running low. I know the idea is sound and my team is great. So my question is what is the best way find VC companies to submit my business plan to and what is the standard timetable these days to receive money if I get an offer?

Also, how do the new “Early Stage” start-up funding companies differ from a standard VC company?

Thanks

    Good afternoon,

When looking for a VC, you basically need the cure for cancer, or something that looks the same. They are not looking into start up tech companies because they were burnt back in 99-2000. They usually are looking for 3 years of solid rev. and/or they want to know the owner has a solid track record. If you have a solid business background, I would go to a VC convention. They will cost you about 5,000 to get in, and you will talk with a bunch of VC’s.
